FLO Kanpur, under the leadership of Chairperson Ankita Garg, successfully concluded the first batch of its three-month Urban Skilling Centre Programme with a Valedictory Session held on 15 July 2026 at Aprajita, Amar Ujala. The initiative was focused on empowering women through practical skill development and creating pathways towards sustainable livelihoods and financial independence.
Supported by Karan Latex Limited and implemented in collaboration with Aprajita, the programme provided structured stitching training to 20 women from urban and rural communities. Over the course of three months, participants received hands-on training in garment stitching, covering traditional and modern stitching techniques, pattern understanding, garment finishing, quality standards, and product development.
The training was designed to equip women with practical, market-relevant skills that could enable them to pursue employment, home-based work, or entrepreneurship in the garment and tailoring sector. In addition to technical skills, the programme incorporated sessions on digital literacy, financial literacy, and personality development. These sessions helped participants strengthen their confidence, improve financial awareness, develop decision-making abilities, and better understand opportunities for economic participation.
The holistic approach aimed to prepare women not only for skilled work but also for greater self-reliance and independence. The Valedictory Session celebrated the successful completion of the training programme and recognised the dedication, discipline, and progress demonstrated by the participants. Mrs. Seema, the special guest and speaker, addressed the gathering and encouraged the women to make meaningful use of their newly acquired skills. Certificates were presented to the trainees in recognition of their successful completion of the course.
The event also highlighted the importance of creating sustainable opportunities beyond training. The organisers shared plans to focus on employment generation, industry linkages, production opportunities, and market access for trained women in the next phase. By connecting participants with relevant industry partners and entrepreneurial opportunities, the initiative aims to help convert skills into sustainable income and long-term livelihoods.
