FICCI FLO Chennai hosted “The Vibrant Art of Konnakkol,” an engaging and interactive cultural session led by renowned percussion artist Ms. Charu Hariharan at Welcomhotel by ITC, Chennai. The session was organized as a precursor to the wellness masterclass conducted by Ayurvedic Health Coach and Gut Health Expert Ms. Dimple Jangda, creating a unique blend of culture and well-being for members.
The event welcomed FLO members who enthusiastically participated in an immersive introduction to Konnakkol, the traditional Carnatic art of vocalizing rhythmic syllables. The session commenced with an insightful explanation of the significance of rhythm in everyday life and its role as the foundation of music, movement, and human expression.
Members were encouraged to actively participate by repeating traditional rhythmic patterns demonstrated by the artist. Through a series of simple yet progressively engaging exercises, participants experienced the joy of creating rhythm collectively. Charu Hariharan’s energetic presentation style and ability to simplify intricate rhythmic structures made the art form accessible even to those with no prior musical background.
As the session progressed, members became increasingly engaged, responding enthusiastically to rhythmic exercises and challenges. The interactive format enabled participants to recognize their innate sense of rhythm while building confidence in exploring a traditional Indian art form.
A key highlight of the session was a captivating mridangam solo performance by Charu Hariharan. Members actively supported the performance by clapping in rhythm, creating a vibrant and collaborative atmosphere. This collective participation transformed the event into an energizing and memorable experience for everyone present.
Beyond its cultural significance, the session emphasized the positive impact of rhythm on mental well-being. Participants learned how rhythmic engagement can enhance focus, elevate mood, improve mindfulness, and boost energy levels. The event successfully demonstrated how traditional Indian performing arts can serve as powerful tools for wellness and personal enrichment.
The session concluded with enthusiastic appreciation from over 250 FLO members, who left with a deeper understanding of Konnakkol and its relevance in fostering mindfulness, creativity, cultural appreciation, and emotional well-being.
