YFLO Kolkata, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, organised ‘The Landmark Quest’ on 11th September 2026 under the STEM Initiative, bringing together 60 participants for an immersive experience that integrated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics through automotive innovation and experiential problem-solving. The initiative highlighted concepts such as automotive engineering, vehicle dynamics, precision engineering, intelligent mobility, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), automotive safety technologies and technological innovation.
The treasure hunt format further encouraged analytical reasoning, spatial intelligence, logical deduction and strategic decision-making, demonstrating the practical relevance of STEM principles beyond conventional learning environments. The event began with an address by representatives from the East India Marketing and Sales team of Mercedes-Benz, who spoke to members about the brand and its automobiles. The event was conceptualised to extend learning beyond conventional settings by transforming Kolkata into an interactive environment for navigation, observation, and real-time decision-making. Participants were divided into three teams—Terra, Aero, and Marine—each tasked with navigating different parts of the city, interpreting clues, identifying landmarks, and determining subsequent stages of the quest.
The format encouraged participants to process information, recognise patterns, evaluate possible routes, and formulate strategies to progress through the challenge. The activity incorporated several competencies associated with STEM-based experiential learning, including logical deduction, spatial mapping, situational assessment, and resource optimisation. Teams were required to coordinate their movements, communicate findings, manage time constraints, and adapt their strategies as new information became available.
These elements reflected the practical application of analytical and decision-making capabilities in dynamic, real-world environments. The collaboration with Mercedes-Benz added an automotive dimension to the programme, connecting the experience with broader themes of mobility, navigation, precision, and technological advancement. The automotive sector relies on the integration of engineering, intelligent systems, data-driven processes, and operational efficiency. While the treasure hunt was not a technical automotive demonstration, its emphasis on navigation, coordination, and strategic execution complemented the problem-solving mindset associated with the sector.
The city-wide format also encouraged participants to engage with Kolkata’s urban landscape from a fresh perspective. Familiar landmarks became integral to the challenge, requiring teams to combine observation, contextual interpretation, and collaborative intelligence to identify their next steps. The competitive yet participative structure fostered communication, adaptability, and collective decision-making.
The quest culminated at Taj Bengal – Souk, where all three teams assembled to solve the concluding challenge. The programme was followed by lunch, providing an opportunity for participants to exchange experiences and strengthen interpersonal connections.
With a total footfall of 60 attendees, “The Landmark Quest” demonstrated how experiential engagement can support the development of analytical competencies, teamwork, and practical problem-solving. The initiative reflected YFLO Kolkata’s commitment to introducing innovative, STEM-aligned experiences that connect applied learning with leadership, community building, and real-world challenges.
