FLO Chennai, led by Chairperson Dr. Divya Abhishek, and the Impact Literacy Vertical, spearheaded by Ms. Sandhya Jaichandren, implemented the “Lab in a Backpack” STEM initiative in Sriperumbudur. This initiative aimed to enhance scientific literacy among middle school students through hands-on experimentation and interactive learning.
A total of 890 students from 8 schools—GHS Panruti, PUMS Pudhuper, PUMS NGO Colony, GGHSS Sriperumbudur, PUMS Pondhur, GHS Mathur, GHSS Katrambakkam, and PUMS Mambakkam—benefited from this program. The initiative covered key scientific topics, including Magnetism, Light, Universe and Space, Robotics II, and Flying Objects. 63 sessions were conducted across the 8 schools. Practical demonstrations formed a core aspect of the sessions, enabling students to engage in experiments related to magnetism, light phenomena, space exploration, robotics, and aerodynamics. The teachers provided feedback on the effectiveness of these sessions.
