Project PUNARNIRMAN – 2nd Jhola Distribution Drive was organised by FLO Kanpur on 2 August 2026 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Phool Bagh Chauraha, Kanpur, as part of its continued commitment towards environmental sustainability, community engagement, and women-led livelihood development. The initiative focused on encouraging the use of reusable jholas as a sustainable alternative to single-use plastic bags, particularly among fruit and vegetable vendors and members of the public.
The drive witnessed active participation from 10 FICCI FLO members and reached more than 250 beneficiaries across the entire fruit and vegetable market at Phool Bagh Chauraha. FLO-branded reusable jholas were distributed to vendors and the public, making sustainable alternatives easily accessible while creating awareness about the environmental consequences of excessive plastic consumption.
The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Kanpur Ploggers Foundation, whose participation strengthened the environmental outreach and community engagement component of the programme. The collaboration brought together a shared commitment towards cleaner public spaces, responsible consumption, and reduction of plastic waste.
A significant aspect of Project PUNARNIRMAN is its integrated approach to sustainability. Alongside addressing environmental concerns, the initiative supports women engaged in stitching and upcycling activities, thereby helping create livelihood opportunities. This approach demonstrates how environmental action can simultaneously contribute to women’s economic empowerment and community development.
The 2nd Jhola Distribution Drive built upon the momentum of the earlier phase of Project PUNARNIRMAN and reinforced the importance of sustained behavioural change. By engaging directly with vendors and consumers in a busy market environment, the programme encouraged people to replace disposable plastic bags with durable, reusable alternatives in their daily lives.
Overall, the event served as a meaningful grassroots sustainability initiative, combining awareness, action, and community participation. Through the distribution of reusable jholas and direct interaction with the market community, FICCI FLO Kanpur continued to promote responsible environmental practices while supporting women-led sustainable livelihoods. The drive reflected the organisation’s broader vision of creating practical, inclusive, and community-oriented solutions for a greener and more sustainable future.
