FLO Indore, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Vandana Gujrati, hosted “My Story, My Voice,” a 4-session storytelling and confidence-building workshop, with each session of around 75–90 minutes from 17-20 of July. The idea was simple that every girl already has stories worth telling; she just needs a safe space and a few tools to find her voice. There were no lectures or heavy theory. The sessions were built around games, performance, storytelling, creativity and reflection.
Ms. Shweta Dua, FLOite, facilitated the four-day storytelling and anchoring workshop at Khushi Foundation, Indore. Ms. Dua has experience in voice over and anchoring for more than 10 years. Organised under FICCI FLO Indore’s Performing Arts initiative, the four-day workshop aimed to provide participants with a supportive and inclusive environment where they could discover their individual voices, overcome hesitation and develop the confidence to communicate their thoughts, experiences and ideas effectively.
Session 1 – I Have a Story
We discovered how everyday life is full of stories through fun games and a signature storytelling card activity.
Session 2 – I Have a Voice
We explored voice, volume, pace, pauses and body language, and started turning stories into performances.
Session 3 – I Can Tell It
We introduced a simple story structure, play improvisation and listening games, and each girl worked towards telling her first prepared 2-minute story.
Session 4 – This Is My Story
A joyful little showcase where each girl got to present a personal story, spoken-word piece or skit. We ended with the line:
“I used to think ______, now I think ______.”
During the final session we also explained to the girls how storytelling can be up as a profession and not just a hobby. Through My Story, My Voice, FLO Indore highlighted the role of performing arts as a meaningful tool for empowerment and personal development. Around 21 girls participated in the storytelling and anchoring workshop. It provided them with an opportunity to strengthen their communication skills, explore their creativity and express themselves with greater confidence through the performing arts.
