Under FLO Kolkata’s overarching vision of powering up women, the MSME Registration Boot Camp was conceived as a practical step towards enabling women entrepreneurs to move from enterprise to formal, recognised and opportunity-ready businesses.
Held over two days on 15 and 16 September 2026, the initiative brought the idea of empowerment into a tangible business context. For a woman entrepreneur, building a business is often only the beginning; understanding the institutional ecosystem around that business is equally important. Formal registration can open pathways towards greater visibility, structured access to finance and participation in larger markets and procurement opportunities.
The Boot Camp therefore focused on taking women entrepreneurs beyond awareness and towards action. Participants were encouraged to bring their essential business and personal documentation, enabling them to engage with the registration process in a structured and purposeful manner. The initiative also helped entrepreneurs recognise the importance of maintaining clear information around their business activity, organisational structure, banking details and workforce.
A key emphasis of the programme was the opportunity that formal MSME status can create for eligible enterprises, including access to collateral-free credit, lower interest rates and fees, and preference in Government of India procurement, as highlighted in the programme communication. Official Government of India sources identify Udyam Registration as the formal MSME registration mechanism and describe it as a free, paperless process.
More significantly, the initiative sought to change the way entrepreneurs perceive formalisation—from a procedural requirement to a strategic business enabler. By helping women understand and navigate the institutional framework surrounding their enterprises, FLO Kolkata created a bridge between entrepreneurship and the systems that can support its next stage of growth. The Boot Camp thus reflected the essence of “The Power to Empower”: not merely encouraging women to build businesses, but equipping them with the knowledge and access required to make those businesses more structured, visible and positioned for sustainable growth.
