Monsoon Support for Our Rag-Picking Sisters

The monsoon brings extra hardship for ragpicker families. Heavy rains make daily collection harder, incomes fall, and access to basic food becomes an added worry. To help, FLO Ahmedabad organised the Monsoon Grocery Kit Drive, supported by FLO members, donors, and well-wishers.

The initiative raised ₹5,61,000, which enabled the distribution of essential grocery kits to over 650 ragpicker families. The distribution was carried out in association with Paryavaran Mitra. Each kit was designed to meet a family’s basic needs through the season. It contained 1 litre of cooking oil, 5 kg of atta, 2 kg of dal, 5 kg of rice, 1 kg of sugar, 250 g of tea, and 100 g each of red chilli, turmeric and cumin powder.

The kits were handed over to the women in person, many of whom carried them home on their heads. For them, the kits were more than food supplies. They were a reminder that the community values their work and stands with them in difficult times. The drive was led by Chairperson Usha Jaiswal and the CSR Team of Vandana Agarwal, Dhruma Shah, Archita Shah, and Rachna Mehta.

The chapter extended heartfelt gratitude to every donor and volunteer, with special appreciation for Ms. Minakshi Bansal’s contribution of ₹50,000 and Ms. Swati Jhajharia’s contribution of ₹2,00,000. The drive reflects the chapter’s commitment to compassion, collaboration, and community service. Its success shows what a group of women can achieve when they pool resources and act with purpose. Together, the chapter brought hope, dignity, and relief to hundreds of families in need.
