Literacy on Diet

Flo Indore organized a session titled “Literacy of Diet” for around 40 young women under their Financial Literacy Initiative. The attendees were part of a program that combines mentorship from FLO members who are experienced professionals with technical skills training provided by the Info Beans Foundation. This initiative aims to prepare young women for employment while also focusing on their overall well-being. Recognizing the importance of a proper diet for a healthy lifestyle, FLO Indore arranged this session to empower the girls to take charge of their health through informed food choices.

The session was led by Dr. Veena Naik, co-founder of Spend, a leading wellness company with a strong foundation in Ayurveda. Dr. Naik’s presentation delved into 10 key principles of Ayurvedic dietary practices, offering young women a roadmap to a healthier lifestyle.

Dr. Naik stressed the importance of understanding one’s body type, or Prakruti in Ayurveda. This self-knowledge empowers individuals to choose foods that are best suited to their unique constitution. She addressed the concept of quality and quantity. Dr. Naik highlighted the significance of temperature. By engaging all 5 senses during meals, one can create a more conscious and pleasurable dining experience. Dr. Naik also discussed the concept of incorporating all 6 tastes ? sweet, sour, salty, pungent, bitter, and astringent ? into one’s diet. She further elaborated on methods to stimulate the digestive fire, known as Agni in Ayurveda.

Dr. Naik concluded the session by emphasizing the importance of meal timing. She also advised allowing at least 3 hours between dinner and bedtime for optimal digestion and restful sleep. Ms. Shruti Maheshwari and Ms. Vandana Gujrati, members of Flo Indore, facilitated the event with great efficiency, ensuring its smooth execution.
