FLO Uttarakhand, under the leadership of Chairperson Tripti Behl, organized WasteWise Initiative on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, 2026 in Dehradun to drive a fundamental shift from a linear “use and discard” mindset toward a sustainable circular economy. The program brought together key civic leaders and professionals, such as Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal; Municipal Commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey (IAS); Naveen Sadana, Additional Director Waste Warriors; Amrit Burett, Project Purkul; Archish Kansal, Respun; and Priyasha, CirQula to establish a collaborative environmental movement.
The launch event served as an educational and strategic platform where experts shared technical insights into the lifecycle journey of waste from initial segregation to final upcycling. To ensure long-term community participation, an interactive session allowed attendees to address local waste management challenges, while Lubna Mirza introduced emerging professional and educational avenues in sustainable textiles and circular design.
A central highlight of the event was the introduction of a localized infrastructure network consisting of eight foundational collection centers across Dehradun. Established at prominent sites—including Olympus High School, Doon Heritage School, Utsav Design Studio, The Horizon School, B.S. Negi Polytechnic, Hill Foundation School, Montessori School, and Krishna Medical Center—these hubs are designed to give citizens accessible drop-off points for responsible waste processing.
The initiative directly targets four critical household waste streams that heavily impact landfills: textile waste, plastic waste, e-waste, and expired medicines. Attended by a distinguished delegation of past and current FLO executives, partners, and community members, the event concluded with a felicitation ceremony honoring the stakeholders’ commitment to environmental stewardship. Ultimately, WasteWise establishes a permanent, integrated ecosystem connecting citizens, schools, businesses, and recyclers to build a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Uttarakhand.
