On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, FLO Kanpur inaugurated the FLO Kanpur Skilling Centre on 15th August 2026 as a dedicated initiative for empowering girls and women through practical skill development and livelihood opportunities. The centre was inaugurated by Past Chairperson Dr. Anuradha Varshney, marking an important step towards creating a sustainable platform for women’s education, skilling, confidence-building, and economic independence.
The FLO Kanpur Skilling Centre has been envisioned as a year-round initiative that will provide free, accessible, and hands-on training to women and girls. The first phase of the programme focuses on tailoring, stitching, and embroidery, with plans to introduce additional skills progressively based on the needs and opportunities available to the participants. To facilitate practical learning, seven sewing machines have been installed at the centre, enabling trainees to gain regular experience and develop their technical capabilities.
The first batch of 15 girls has commenced a three-month structured training programme in stitching, tailoring, and embroidery. The programme is designed not only to impart vocational skills but also to help participants build confidence and explore pathways towards employment, self-employment, and entrepreneurship. By providing free training and access to essential equipment, the initiative aims to ensure that financial limitations do not prevent women from acquiring skills that can contribute to sustainable livelihoods.
The inauguration ceremony was held in the spirit of Independence Day and began with flag hoisting, followed by the singing of patriotic songs. The celebrations reflected the broader message of independence through empowerment, self-reliance, and equal opportunities. The event also included the distribution of snack boxes to the girls of the first batch, adding a warm and encouraging touch to the occasion.
The FLO Kanpur Skilling Centre represents FICCI FLO Kanpur’s continued commitment to women’s empowerment and inclusive development. By creating a consistent platform for learning and livelihood generation, the initiative seeks to enable women to transform their skills into meaningful economic opportunities. In the long term, the centre aims to nurture confidence, encourage entrepreneurship, strengthen financial independence, and contribute towards building a more skilled and self-reliant community.
