From Boutique to Brand: The Ultimate Blueprint for Scaling Indian Fashion

FICCI FLO, under the leadership of its 43rd National President, Ms. Puja Garg, organised an insightful virtual session titled “From Boutique to Brand: The Ultimate Blueprint for Scaling Indian Fashion”, featuring Mr. Gaurav Mandal, Fashion Brand Strategist, Business Consultant and Design Educator. The session focused on helping fashion entrepreneurs transform traditional boutique and homegrown businesses into structured, scalable, and sustainable brands.

Mr. Mandal highlighted the challenges fashion boutiques face as they grow, particularly excessive customisation, founder dependency, and inefficient workflows. He explained that while boutique owners have strong expertise in fabrics, fits, customer preferences and personalised service, scaling requires a shift from serving individual clients to creating repeatable products and collections.

The session covered key elements of building a scalable fashion business, including market research, collection planning, product development, pricing, production, quality control, marketing and multi-channel distribution. Mr. Mandal emphasised the importance of standardised systems for design, sourcing, fitting, production and customer service to reduce the “founder bottleneck” and enable businesses to grow beyond the founder’s direct involvement.

He also highlighted the four Ps—Product, Pricing, Promotion and Placement—and the importance of strengthening digital presence, social media, e-commerce and marketplace channels. A case study demonstrated how a boutique could retain its existing operations while adding ready-to-wear collections, a website and marketplace sales to build a broader brand. Mr. Mandal advised women entrepreneurs to expand their market reach by building a strong online presence on Instagram and e-commerce marketplaces like Myntra.

Overall, the webinar emphasized that scaling a fashion business requires moving from a highly personalised, founder-led model to a system-driven brand built around repeatable products, strong positioning, efficient operations, and wider market reach. The virtual session is a part of the FLO National Textile, Handloom & Handicraft initiative led by Varuna Anand (Lead) and Ambar Pariddi Sahai (Co-Lead), with the support of members Anju Narain and Arti Chowdhary.
