FLO Indore, in collaboration with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV), organised an insightful session on “From 5G to 6G: Emerging Opportunities” on 9 October 2026. The programme aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry while familiarising young engineers with the rapidly evolving telecommunications sector and the possibilities offered by next-generation technologies.
The session featured Ms. Alka Selot Asthana, Global Head – Regulatory Affairs, Tata Communications, as the distinguished speaker. Drawing upon her professional experience in the telecommunications and digital infrastructure sectors, she shared valuable perspectives on the evolution of communication technologies, the transition from 5G towards 6G, and the emerging opportunities in the digital economy. She highlighted the importance of technological awareness, adaptability, continuous learning, and future-ready skills in preparing for a rapidly changing professional landscape.
The programme witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 350 engineering students, along with FLO members, entrepreneurs, professionals, faculty members, and professors. The interaction offered students an opportunity to gain industry-oriented insights beyond their academic curriculum and understand the potential career pathways in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, regulatory affairs, and emerging technology domains.
A particularly memorable aspect of the event was the connection between the speaker and the institution. Dr. Rakesh Singhai, Vice-Chancellor of DAVV, had been Ms. Asthana’s teacher, making the occasion a meaningful reunion of a teacher and his former student who has gone on to achieve significant professional accomplishments. His presence, along with Dr. Pratosh Bansal, Director of IET, and the faculty team, underscored the importance of mentorship, academic excellence, and institutional collaboration.
Through this initiative, FICCI FLO Indore reaffirmed its commitment to promoting STEM awareness, strengthening academia–industry partnerships, and inspiring young people, particularly women, to explore opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and innovation. The programme was a meaningful step towards equipping future engineers with industry perspectives, encouraging ambition, and building confidence to participate in India’s growing technology ecosystem.
