Five-Day Baking Workshop

FLO Kanpur successfully organised a five-day Baking Workshop from 6–10 August 2026 for the station families of Army personnel at Sanghmitra Vocational Training Centre, Cantonment, Kanpur. The initiative was undertaken with the objective of promoting skill development, empowerment, self-reliance and potential livelihood opportunities among Army station families.

The workshop provided participants with practical, hands-on training in a range of baking products, including cakes, cookies, doughnuts and nutritious ragi-based delicacies. The sessions were designed to combine learning with practical application, enabling participants to understand basic baking techniques, preparation methods, product presentation and the possibilities of developing these skills into home-based entrepreneurial ventures.

The workshop brought together experienced professionals from the baking and food industry, including Ujjwala Kariwala of Dear Butter, Shreya Tandon of The Cupcake Story, Uddita Gupta of Layers by Uddita and Gurleen of Gigi’s Patisserie. Through demonstrations, practical sessions and interactions, the experts shared their knowledge, techniques and industry experience with the participants. Their guidance helped participants gain greater confidence in baking while also exposing them to the potential of small-scale food businesses.

A key focus of the programme was to encourage participants to view baking not only as a creative and culinary skill but also as a potential source of income and financial independence. By learning products that can be prepared from home and potentially sold on a small scale, participants were encouraged to explore entrepreneurship at their own pace.

The workshop successfully equipped 18 participants with practical baking skills and reached 25 beneficiaries across 25 families. It also reflected FICCI FLO Kanpur’s commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for women and families through skill-building initiatives.

Overall, the five-day programme served as a platform for learning, creativity, confidence-building and empowerment. It encouraged participants to develop self-reliance, explore home-based entrepreneurial opportunities and apply their newly acquired skills towards personal and economic growth.
