Beyond the Frame Event

FLO Chennai organised an immersive contemporary art engagement event, Beyond the Frame, at ARTIFORM, Mylapore, Chennai, offering members an opportunity to explore the works of acclaimed artists Bhagwan Chavan, Dilipkumar Kesavan, Jacob Jebaraj and Pravin Kannanur. The curated exhibition featured paintings and sculptures spanning abstract and multidisciplinary art forms, showcasing how contemporary art can transform and enrich living spaces.

Hosted at The Collector’s Room at ARTIFORM by its founder, Shreyans Bora, the programme included a guided walkthrough by the four participating artists, followed by an engaging discussion moderated by Ms. Nivedita Jegadeesh. The interaction provided members with insights into the artists’ creative processes, techniques, and perspectives on the evolving art landscape.

A key highlight was the fireside conversation on the importance of art patronage and institutional support in sustaining artistic practice. The discussion explored challenges surrounding long-term patronage, the role of galleries and cultural institutions, the accessibility of art, and the emerging influence of artificial intelligence on artistic expression. The artists also reflected on the future of art in India, drawing attention to the country’s rich artistic traditions and the legacy of creative communities such as Cholamandal Artists’ Village.

The exchange offered members a deeper understanding of the dedication, purpose and introspection that underpin artistic creation. The artists described their practices as deeply personal and meditative, enabling them to communicate ideas and emotions through their chosen mediums, whether canvas, paint, stone or sculpture.

The programme encouraged members to reflect on the relevance of art in a fast-paced, increasingly digital world and the need to preserve creative expression, cultural heritage and meaningful human connections. It also reinforced the importance of supporting emerging artists and creating opportunities for contemporary art to reach wider audiences.

FICCI FLO Chennai Chapter acknowledged the valuable support and encouragement of members Sunita Suresh and Ms. Nivedita Jegadeesh, along with the ARTIFORM team, in facilitating this enriching engagement. The programme engaged 32 FLO members in meaningful conversations on contemporary art, creative expression, and the importance of sustained patronage. It deepened appreciation for artistic practice, highlighted the role of galleries and institutions in supporting artists, and encouraged members to support emerging creative talent in Chennai.
