Beyond the Bins: A City in India Got Super Cleaned: The Indore Model

FICCI FLO, under the leadership of the 43rd National President, Ms. Puja Garg, hosted an informative webinar, titled “Beyond the Bins: A City in India Got Super Cleaned: The Indore Model,” on the occasion of Earth Day on 22nd April, 2026. Held under the FLO National Initiative, Greentech & Circular Economy, the virtual session brought together members to learn how Indore became India’s cleanest city through its cleanliness model based on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

The webinar featured Shrigopal Jagtap, CEO, planning and execution for Indore Model, who is behind Indore’s robust waste management system. Mr. Jagtap talked about Indore’s journey from being one of the dirtiest cities in 2014-15 to achieving consistent top rankings in cleanliness over the past eight years.

He provided deep insights into the Indore cleanliness model, covering best practices, policy frameworks, and execution strategies that enabled this transformation. Indore becomes a clean city through initiatives, such as door-to-door waste collection, proper segregation, community involvement, and technological implementation. Mr. Jagtap emphasized the importance of pilot programs, community training, and proper infrastructure development for implementing a cleanliness model like Indore in other cities.

Heartfelt appreciation to the Greentech and Circular Economy‘s Initiative Lead, Vibha Jain, and Initiative Co-Lead, Namrata Mishra, for driving this important conversation forward and highlighting the exemplary cleanliness model of Indore.
