FLO Chennai, led by Chairperson Ms. Miyati A. Mehta, launched a skill-building initiative at Perumbakkam, Chennai. The initiative aimed at empowering women through the traditional art of Aari embroidery.
65 women were systematically trained not only in the art of Aari work but also in applying these techniques to create marketable products and they were awarded with a certificate this year. A milestone was the receipt of a large order of 100+ custom embroidered potli bags. The skill of Aari embroidery is one that can be passed down to other members of the family. It offers not just creative expression, but a pathway to dignified, stable livelihoods.
