FLO Pune, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Poonam Kochchar, hosted an engaging session, ‘Waste to Flame,” with Ms. Priyadarshan Sahasrebuddhe, Founder of Vaayu Biogas & IIT Bombay Alumnus, as members explored practical and sustainable waste management solutions. With rising LPG costs and increasing environmental concerns, exploring sustainable fuel alternatives has become the need of the hour.
Biogas offers an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution by converting everyday kitchen waste into clean cooking fuel — helping households reduce waste while saving on fuel expenses. Hosted at Pimple Saudagar, the presentation by Ms. Sahasrebuddhe highlighted that 2 kg of kitchen waste can produce approximately 800 gm of methane gas within 24 hours through a biogas digestion process.
The initiative promotes eco-friendly living, waste reduction, and clean energy solutions for homes and communities. Also, the event confirmed the installation of a biogas unit at the FLO Pune Chapter by one of the FLO members within her residential society.
Key Takeaways
- Conversion of kitchen waste into renewable biogas energy.
- 2 kg of kitchen waste generates nearly 800 g of methane gas in 24 hours.
- Encourages sustainable and eco-friendly waste management practices.
Impact & Outcome
This initiative marks a positive step towards community-driven sustainable living and waste management. Confirmations for several more installations have been received, and these projects will be implemented soon. Around 15 FLO members attended this session.
In addition, discussions are underway with Gram Sarpanch representatives to introduce biogas installations at the grassroots level and encourage sustainable energy practices in rural communities. Small choices made at home can power a greener nation.
