MUMBAI DABBAWALA

FLO Pune, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Poonam Kochchar, hosted a Mumbai Dabbawala event successfully at the Sheraton Grand. It witnessed an enthusiastic response from members and guests alike. The session was truly inspiring, engaging, and filled with powerful life lessons shared by Subhash Talekar through his memorable anecdotes and real-life experiences from the incredible journey of the Mumbai Dabbawala network.

Mr. Talekar is a distinguished leader who is carrying forward this proud legacy — the President of Mumbai Dabbawalas. He belongs to the fourth generation of dabbawalas. Besides running the organization of Dabbawalas, Mr. Subash is also a renowned motivational speaker. Beyond his leadership in the dabbawala system, he has also initiated meaningful social efforts such as Roti Bank, which helps distribute surplus food to the needy, and Kapda Bank, which provides clothes to underprivileged communities.

The audience was deeply entertained and inspired by stories of discipline, teamwork, commitment, time management, customer service, and the globally recognised efficiency of the Mumbai Dabbawalas. Their journey from local service providers to being acknowledged internationally by leaders like King Charles III and Richard Branson left a lasting impact on everyone present.

One of the key highlights of the session was understanding the famous colour-coding system of the dabbas — a simple yet brilliant process management tool that reflects clarity, precision, teamwork, and accountability. Members drew valuable life skills lessons from this system.

The event also encouraged 145 members to reflect on how these principles can be applied in daily life, businesses, entrepreneurship, and community leadership. The interaction created a meaningful footprint across both Mumbai and Pune, strengthening conversations around life skills, grassroots innovation, and human values.
