“Some projects light homes.
Some projects light hearts.
Light Up has done both.”
Under the leadership of Chairperson Aparna Sunku, the FICCI Ladies Organisation Coimbatore Chapter, in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Midtown, stepped into the remote forest hamlet of Kallar Theppakulam Medu — where 25 tribal households and 56 lives had never experienced the security of reliable electricity as a part of Project Light UP.
“When the sun set, darkness took over.
Children stopped studying.
Women hurried through chores.
Families stayed indoors, wary of wildlife movement.
There was no grid. No streetlight. Only uncertainty.”
Between 25th February and 2nd March 2026, in a swift and determined effort, sustainable energy systems were installed with a total investment of ₹4,05,500 — half of it contributed by FICCI FLO.
But what was installed was not just lighting. It was safety — against wild animal threats. It was opportunity — for children to dream beyond sunset. It was dignity — for women managing their homes. It was livelihood — allowing families to work and earn longer. Today, every single resident of this hamlet lives with greater security, mobility, and hope.
Light Up is more than electrification. It is inclusion, empowerment, and it is what happens when compassionate leadership meets purposeful collaboration. And in Kallar Theppakulam Medu, the lights will now never go out — in their homes, or in their futures. The project was executed perfectly by our project chairs Hema Khona & Geetha Menda.
