Led by Chairperson Dr. Divya Abhishek and Joint Treasurer Ms. Ruchita Saraogi, FLO Chennai organized a “Garden in a Pot” workshop in collaboration with Beruru. The session, attended by 60 attendees was led by landscaper and stylist Ms. Sudha Reddy, and provided insights into indoor and outdoor plant care, emphasizing sustainable gardening practices.
Ms. Reddy discussed key topics such as flooding, mosquito control, and air-purifying plants like spider plants and mother-in-law’s tongue. She highlighted the importance of proper watering techniques, cautioning against overwatering, which is a common mistake. She also advised against using a hosepipe, as it leads to water wastage and is detrimental to plant health.
Addressing indoor plant care, she recommended avoiding red soil and instead using nutrient-rich alternatives such as magnesium, zinc, NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium), coffee powder, and eggshells, which should be added once or twice a month. Ms. Reddy demonstrated 2 types of plant arrangements. She emphasized that pots must have drainage holes to prevent water retention and should be layered with materials like chips, jelly, and pebbles to facilitate proper drainage.
