FLO Amritsar hosted the “Shirkat: Equal Participation – Marking International Day of Persons with Disabilities” event to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The event supported by Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development & Spinal Cord Injury Association aimed to raise awareness and advocate for equal rights and opportunities for persons with disabilities, empowering them with the tools for equal participation in society.
A Round Table Discussion focused on creating accessible environments and inclusive policies for persons with disabilities. Various schemes provided by the Punjab Government for beneficiaries were discussed by Punjab Social Security and Women and Child Development. The event included a series of performances and discussions that underscored the importance of inclusion.
The event featured a Traditional Rabab performance by students from St. Soldier School set, followed by dance performances by Ablu Rajesh, a double amputee, Imran Qureshi, who showcased his wheelchair skills, and Anand Arnold, India’s first wheelchair bodybuilder.
The Chief Guest, Sakshi Sawhney, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, delivered a speech on the need for equal participation for persons with disabilities in all aspects of life.
The event concluded with the FLO Trailblazer Awards, recognizing 11 individuals who have made significant contributions to enhancing the inclusivity and accessibility of society for people with disabilities.
