FLO Chennai, under the leadership of Chairperson Dr. Amulya Rao, organized a two-day intensive hands-on training programme, Project BLOOM, for 20 women, focusing on practical floral skills that have immediate commercial value. The participants learned: Nandhiyavattam Veni, Decorative Floral Wreaths using Chocolate Roses and Gypsy flowers, Pooja Garlands, Traditional Wedding Garlands using Lotus flowers, and Wedding Garlands using Nandhiyavattam and Chocolate Roses.
The sessions combined traditional floral techniques with contemporary presentation styles, enabling participants to create products suitable for weddings, religious ceremonies, festivals, and special occasions. Project BLOOM demonstrates that even short-duration training programmes can lead to meaningful income generation.
By leveraging locally available natural flowers and seasonal demand, women can begin earning independently with very little capital investment. The initiative also encourages entrepreneurship, preserves traditional floral craftsmanship, and promotes environmentally sustainable livelihoods through the use of natural, biodegradable materials.
