Changing the Script

FLO Indore, under the leadership of Chairperson Vandana Gujrati, hosted an inspiring and high profile talk show event, “Changing the Script,” which served as a platform where real stories were shared by the most influential voices in India’s entertainment ecosystem. Accomplished women speakers redefining cinema, OTT, and storytelling in modern India shared their personal journeys, struggles, and insights on how women can overcome challenges in a male-dominated industry and shape the culture of tomorrow through powerful storytelling.

The distinguished panel featured Aparna Purohit, CEO of Aamir Khan Productions, Srishti Behl, Nimisha Pandey, content architect, Mrinalini Khanna, co-founder of Phenomenal Entertainment, and Smriti Kiran, founder of Polka Dots Light Box, who also moderated the conversation. The experts came together for a conversation that explored far more than films and content.

From leadership and entrepreneurship to creativity, resilience and influence, the discussion offered fresh perspectives on what it truly takes to shape an industry in constant evolution. The discussion highlighted the deep emotional connect women share with each other.

Key Takeaways

  1. Mrinalini Khanna emphasised that women are each other’s best friends, bonded by an emotional depth that others may not fully understand. She challenged the old notion that women are competitors, instead calling for greater support and solidarity.
  2. Aparna Purohit waited endlessly for opportunities, encountered rejections, and dealt with producers who often undervalued her talent. Yet she persisted and resolved to create more chances for women in the future.
  3. Nimisha Pandey fought family resistance, with her father initially refusing to let her pursue a career in the field. She learned that no one opens doors for you – one must create opportunities through sheer effort.
  4. Srishti Behl, despite coming from a film background, shouldered household responsibilities as the eldest sibling and stressed that hard work and perseverance remain essential, even when some advantages exist.
  5. Panellists spoke of being undermined, facing improper facilities on sets, and not being taken seriously.
  6. They stressed the importance of giving every woman a chance to express her views.
  7. On the role of artificial intelligence, they viewed it as a useful tool similar to a bright intern, but maintained that human creativity, independent thinking, and vision cannot be replaced.

Impact

Around 150 attendees participated in the meaningful dialogue centered on boosting equality and inclusivity in the Indian entertainment ecosystem. The discussion succesfully explored how women in media go beyond the screen to shape contemporary culture, challenge traditional media narratives, and drive leadership within the entertainment ecosystem.
