FLO Bengaluru’s Social Impact Circle organised a free Eye Camp on 10 September 2026 at Swami Vivekananda Rural First Grade College, Neraluru, Karnataka. Conducted in association with RIVEA Foundation and supported by the college, the initiative focused on making essential eye-health screening accessible to students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and residents of nearby rural communities.
The programme was designed to address a basic but often overlooked health need: timely vision screening. In rural and semi-rural areas, many people may delay eye examinations because of limited awareness, travel constraints, accessibility issues, or the cost of medical consultation. By bringing free screening services directly to the college and surrounding community, the Eye Camp aimed to encourage early identification of vision-related concerns and facilitate timely support for those requiring corrective assistance.
Swami Vivekananda Rural First Grade College played a central role in ensuring meaningful community participation. College students volunteered to create awareness in nearby villages through door-to-door outreach, personally inviting local residents to attend the camp. On the day of the event, transport was also arranged to bring participants from surrounding villages to the venue. These efforts helped make the camp more inclusive by reducing mobility barriers and enabling wider access for community members who may otherwise not have been able to attend.
The camp saw active participation from rural residents, college students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff. A total of 252 individuals underwent eye-health screening, including 130 members of the public, 103 students, 11 teaching staff, and five other staff members. The screenings identified approximately 130 individuals who require spectacles. RIVEA Foundation will prepare the spectacles and distribute them to the identified beneficiaries by the end of the following week, ensuring that the programme has a direct and practical impact.
