FLO Amritsar, under the leadership of Chairperson Tannya Khanna, organized “Hackathon 2026 – Code. Create. Think,” in partnership with MITS Academy at EXCELSUM HIGH Senior Secondary School, Amritsar. Held under Digital Literacy & AI Vertical, the Hackathon brought together technology, practical learning and student wellbeing, creating an experience that extended beyond traditional classroom education.
The programme introduced students to the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence and modern software development. Through a hands-on format, participants explored tools including GitHub Copilot, Claude AI and VS Code, learning how emerging AI technologies can support coding, problem-solving and the development of digital solutions. Students were also guided through the process of setting up software development environments, giving them an understanding of how ideas can be translated into working solutions.
A key focus of the Hackathon was encouraging students to think beyond simply using technology. They were introduced to algorithmic and computational thinking, helping them approach complex problems in a structured manner while developing curiosity, creativity and confidence. The initiative aimed to give students an early understanding of the skills and working methods increasingly relevant to future industries.
The programme also carried an important message around mental health and suicide prevention. In observance of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, FICCI FLO Amritsar incorporated its #BaatKaro initiative into the school engagement. A dedicated awareness talk on suicide prevention was conducted with the school principal, teachers, and students, encouraging open conversations around emotional struggles and the importance of speaking up and seeking support.
The awareness initiative was accompanied by a Purple Candle Lighting – “Igniting Candles of Hope”, bringing the school community together in a symbolic gesture of hope, compassion and solidarity. The combination of digital education and wellbeing awareness made the initiative particularly relevant for young learners. While the Hackathon encouraged students to code, create and think, the #BaatKaro engagement reinforced the importance of being able to communicate, connect and seek help.
Through this integrated approach, FICCI FLO Amritsar strengthened its commitment to Digital Literacy & AI, Skill Development, Technology & Innovation, and Health, Wellness & Life Skills, while creating meaningful engagement with the school community.
