As part of its Financial Literacy Initiative, FLO Mumbai organised a Financial Literacy Session for women in Alibaug, aimed at empowering rural and semi-urban women with practical knowledge to make informed financial decisions. The initiative was supported by Sparsh NGO as Community Partner and Dhiraa SkillDev Foundation as Knowledge Partner, reinforcing FLO Mumbai’s commitment to advancing women’s financial awareness and economic empowerment.
The session featured Ms. Mona Kwatra, Founder, Dhiraa SkillDev Foundation; Mr. Maharshi Dave, Founder, Sparsh NGO & Advocate; and Mr. Samir Naik, Trainer. It focused on the importance of financial literacy for women’s financial independence, including the value of maintaining a personal bank account, regular savings, disciplined investing, and household budgeting. Participants were introduced to options such as Post Office Savings Schemes, PPF and Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, along with key government schemes including PM Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Suraksha Bima Yojana, PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Atal Pension Yojana.
The speakers also explained the benefits of regular investments through SIPs and the power of compounding. The session further highlighted small business and income-generation opportunities for women, including mushroom farming, masala making and other entrepreneurial activities. With 5 FICCI FLO members and 80 rural and semi-urban women participating, the session encouraged active discussions and practical learning around saving, investing, and financial planning.
