Project Pond Rejuvenation was a focused environmental sustainability initiative undertaken by FICCI FLO Kanpur at Putrahiya Pond in Shivrajpur from April to July. The initiative was designed to support the restoration and rejuvenation of the local waterbody through targeted interventions aimed at improving its ecological condition and strengthening community awareness around water conservation.
The project recognised that ponds and other local waterbodies play an important role in maintaining ecological balance, supporting biodiversity, improving groundwater conditions, and contributing to healthier local environments. With increasing environmental pressures, the rejuvenation of Putrahiya Pond provided an opportunity to demonstrate how consistent, community-oriented action can help restore natural ecosystems.
The initiative received the support and guidance of Shri Abhishek Jain, Chief Development Officer (CDO), whose participation reinforced the importance of coordinated efforts between the administration, civil society, and local communities. FICCI FLO Kanpur members actively contributed to the initiative, promoting a sense of collective responsibility towards protecting and maintaining natural resources.
The project focused on creating a cleaner and healthier waterbody while encouraging local participation in environmental conservation. By involving citizens and stakeholders in the rejuvenation process, the initiative highlighted the value of citizen-led environmental action and demonstrated that even local interventions can generate meaningful ecological benefits.
A rejuvenated and cleaner pond can contribute to improved wetland health, provide a more supportive habitat for native biodiversity and pollinators, and positively influence the surrounding microclimate. Beyond the physical restoration of the waterbody, the project aimed to build greater awareness about sustainable water management and encourage communities to take ownership of their local environmental assets.
Through this initiative, FICCI FLO Kanpur sought to create a positive and sustainable impact in Shivrajpur, reaching more than 2,500 beneficiaries. With the participation of 10–12 FLO members, Project Pond Rejuvenation demonstrated the power of collective action in addressing local environmental challenges.
The initiative serves as an example of how focused interventions, administrative support, and community engagement can come together to restore natural resources and promote a more sustainable and environmentally responsible future.
