Drone Innovation Workshop & Inter-School Flight Challenge

Under its STEM/AI Initiative, FLO Kolkata organised the Drone Innovation Workshop & Inter-School Flight Challenge on 19 June 2026, creating an immersive and engaging platform for young learners to explore drone technology through practical, hands-on learning. Conducted in collaboration with EduVerse, the programme brought together approximately 40 students, with teams of four to six students representing each of the eight participating schools. 

The workshop was designed to move beyond theoretical STEM learning and provide participants with the opportunity to directly engage with the principles of engineering, technology and innovation. The programme commenced with a technical workshop conducted by Mr. Rajiv Agarwal of EduVerse, who introduced students to the fundamentals of drone architecture, aerodynamics, assembly, calibration and flight operations. 

With guidance from the technical experts, students worked collaboratively in teams to independently assemble functional drones using the kits provided. The next stage of the programme transformed learning into action. Once the drones were assembled, each team participated in a structured flight challenge using the very drones they had built. The challenge assessed teams on several parameters, including technical precision, adherence to design specifications, obstacle navigation, flight control, time efficiency and aerial image capture.

Despite drone technology being a first-time experience for many of the participants, every team successfully assembled and flew its drone. This outcome reflected the students’ remarkable adaptability, teamwork, analytical reasoning and engineering aptitude. The process also enabled participants to experience the value of persistence and collaborative problem-solving while navigating technical challenges in real time.

The initiative demonstrated the impact of experiential learning in making complex technological concepts more accessible and engaging. By enabling students to build, test, and operate technology themselves, FLO Kolkata created an environment where curiosity could develop into confidence and theoretical understanding could translate into practical capability.

Conducted as a complementary educational intervention, the programme reaffirmed FLO Kolkata’s commitment to advancing STEM education and providing young learners with equitable access to future-focused learning experiences. It also established a strong foundation for continued engagement with participating institutions through advanced programmes in drone technology, robotics, artificial intelligence and innovation-led learning.
