FLO Women Directors Initiative
Building India's Next Generation of Board-Ready Women Leaders.
Overview
The FLO Women Directors (FWD) initiative is a strategic effort towards closing the gender gap in corporate governance by creating a strong pipeline of board-ready women leaders. The initiative aligns with the Companies Act, 2013, which mandates the inclusion of at least one woman director on the boards of listed and specified public companies.
It expands FLO’s role beyond networking and business development by creating pathways for women to assume leadership positions on corporate boards, family businesses, institutions, and public enterprises. FICCI FLO, a long-standing advocate for women’s empowerment, leverages this initiative to drive meaningful change by enabling women to take on key decision-making roles in India’s corporate ecosystem.
In collaboration with Women Corporate Directors (WCD), FLO has already mentored women through creating pools of prospective directors and making them board-ready for corporate opportunities.
Objective
To increase women’s representation on corporate boards and in senior leadership through targeted training, mentorship, and advocacy for gender diversity. Creating a robust network of competent and independent women directors across FLO chapters in India.
Why It Matters
Despite regulatory mandates, women remain underrepresented in boardrooms. This initiative addresses core challenges such as:
- Lack of structured training for board responsibilities.
- Limited visibility and access to board opportunities.
- Insufficient advocacy and awareness around gender diversity.
By equipping women with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to lead, FLO Women Corporate Directors is shaping a more balanced, inclusive, and future-ready corporate India.
