Bridging the Gender Gap in STEM & Building An Inclusive Future
Overview
There is still low representation of women in STEM careers due to the lack of exposure, confidence, industry connections, mentorship, and pathways from education to enterprise. However, FICCI FLO has been strengthening women’s participation, visibility, and leadership across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics-related sectors for many years.
FLO Women in STEM initiative works on empowering women through knowledge, economic opportunity, leadership and nation-building. Young girls and women get practical STEM exposure through industrial visits, AI and robotics workshops, awareness sessions, roundtables, hackathons, skilling programmes, academic collaborations and innovation-led national platforms.
Objective
To build a strong national pipeline of women who are not only STEM learners, but also STEM leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, researchers, technologists and decision-makers contributing to India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
Scope of Work
Hands-on STEM Learning
- Establishing STEM and Robotics Labs in schools and communities.
- Encouraging creativity, innovation, and application-based learning via industry visits, AI and emerging technology workshops, STEM awareness sessions, roundtables, and hackathons.
2. Expert-led Engagements
- Hosting workshops, interactive sessions, and talks by scientists, doctors, entrepreneurs, robotic organisations, and tech leaders.
- Making complex concepts accessible and relatable for students.
Multi-disciplinary Skill Development
- Offering exposure to AI/ML, design, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship alongside core STEM subjects.
- Equipping participants with future-ready skills.
Equity & Inclusion
- Focused outreach to underprivileged and rural students, ensuring access to opportunities.
- Aligning with SDGs on Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Innovation.
