Self-Defence Training (community outreach program)

The self-defence training sessions under Project SHREE represent a flagship community initiative by FICCI FLO Uttarakhand, specifically designed to empower young girls and women through comprehensive capacity-building and skill development. Held at Akhil Bhartiya Mahila Ashram, Laxman Chowk, Dehradun, the sessions focused on building strength, confidence, safety, discipline and resilience.

Structured to address both immediate and long-term personal safety, the event focuses heavily on enhancing situational awareness, improving physical fitness, and building the mental confidence required to respond effectively in challenging situations. Led by Coach Niriksha Chettri, enthusiastic participants from diverse age groups actively engage in hands-on learning, mastering basic karate techniques, defensive maneuvers, and confidence-building exercises.

Highlighting the sustainable impact of this ongoing empowerment drive, the program recently celebrated a proud milestone where 11 dedicated girls successfully earned their White Belt certifications, proving their discipline and readiness to advance to the next level of training. The program focused on developing their physical fitness by focusing on core physical health, stamina, and agility through active, hands-on learning of basic karate techniques.

It drives long-term women’s empowerment by transforming casual participation into structured skill development, as proven by the girls advancing through certified milestones like the White Belt. Around 30 young girls benefited from the self-defence training sessions. It nurtured a generation of stronger, safer, and self-assured young women through practical self-defence skills and confidence-building.

Project SHREE is a sustained community initiative using self-defence and karate training to equip girls with practical safety skills while fostering confidence, discipline, resilience, and empowerment.
