Under the Mental Wellness, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts initiatives, FLO Kolkata hosted an immersive art experience on 20 July 2026 at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity (KCC), bringing together approximately 30–35 FLO members who share a deep appreciation for art, despite not being professional painters.
The experience commenced with an engaging walkthrough of Shipra Bhattacharya’s artworks, transforming the gallery into a space of observation, interpretation, and artistic dialogue. With the artist herself guiding the session, members explored the stories and emotions behind her paintings, delving into their symbolism, inspiration, composition, colour palette, and artistic techniques. The walkthrough offered participants a deeper understanding of how an artist translates thought and lived experience into visual language.
The experience then took an evocative turn—from art appreciation to artistic expression. Each participant was provided with a canvas, colours, and brushes and invited to paint without restraint or prescribed form. Under the gentle guidance of Shipra Bhattacharya, members allowed their imagination to take precedence over perfection, translating their emotions, memories, thoughts, and aspirations onto the canvas.
For many, the act of painting became an intimate form of creative catharsis. Colours became a vocabulary for emotions that words could not articulate, offering participants an opportunity to release pent-up feelings, momentarily detach from everyday pressures, and reconnect with a more spontaneous and authentic self. The resulting canvases were as diverse as the women who created them—each reflecting a distinct perspective, emotional landscape, and creative impulse.
The workshop fostered an atmosphere of joy, uninhibited exploration, and collective inspiration, reaffirming that artistic expression belongs to everyone, irrespective of formal training. To further encourage continued engagement with art, books featuring Shipra Bhattacharya’s artistic journey and oeuvre were made available to the participants, with several members taking them forward for inspiration and learning.
The initiative was a powerful embodiment of FLO Kolkata’s Power Up philosophy—encouraging women to pause, reflect, express, and ultimately reconnect with their inner strength through the transformative language of art.
