FLO Bangalore Chapter’s Social Impact Circle, led by Chairperson Deepa Boopesh Reddy, organized an E-Waste Collection Drive on 4th July 2026 at 3rd Block, Koramangala, Bengaluru, in collaboration with Saahas Zero Waste. The event was conceived under FLO’s Green Tech & Circular Economy vertical, with a clear focus on promoting responsible e-waste disposal and building long-term sustainable habits among residents and the local community.
By choosing a residential neighbourhood as the venue, the chapter ensured that the drive was accessible, familiar, and relevant to everyday household realities. Residents were invited to drop off a wide range of old and unused electronic items, including mobile phones, chargers, cables, batteries, small appliances, gadgets, and miscellaneous e-waste that usually lies forgotten at home. Saahas Zero Waste’s team guided participants on what qualifies as e-waste and why it should not be mixed with regular dry or wet waste.
They also explained the hazards of informal dumping and dismantling, such as soil and water contamination, air pollution from burning, and health risks to workers involved in unregulated handling. All collected e-waste was channelled through Saahas Zero Waste’s responsible recycling processes, ensuring safe collection, traceable aggregation, and environmentally compliant processing. This helped residents feel confident that their contributions were not only decluttering their homes but also preventing toxic materials from entering landfills and informal scrap chains. The drive successfully collected 221 kgs of e-waste, reflecting strong participation and awareness within the Koramangala community.
Beyond the collection numbers, the event aimed to turn awareness into action. FLO members and Saahas Zero Waste representatives interacted with residents, encouraging them to view e-waste disposal as a continuous responsibility rather than a one-time activity. The positive response and expressed interest in repeat drives have motivated FLO Bengaluru to plan similar initiatives in other localities, building a network of neighbourhood-level collection points over time.
The drive thus reinforced FLO’s mission of “Power to Empower” by enabling citizens to participate directly in environmental stewardship, while showcasing how civil society collaborations can operationalize the principles of green technology and circular economy in everyday life. The E-Waste Collection Drive received a city-wide footprint of 12,000 individuals in Bangalore.
