Drone Remote Pilot Training Workshop – She Flies Initiative

FLO Bangalore hosted “She Flies – Wings of Honor: Empowering Army Families Through Drone Technology initiative,” under its Social Impact Circle, marking a powerful convergence of national service, women empowerment, and future-ready technology. Designed as a meaningful tribute to Army families, the program focused on skilling the wives and daughters of military personnel, enabling them to step confidently into India’s rapidly growing drone ecosystem.

The Drone Remote Pilot Training workshop was held in the presence of Mrs. Dekyi Chawla – National Head AI & Digital Skilling, Rupa Bajaj – FLO Bengaluru and National Drone Team, Mrs. Deepa Reddy – Chairperson, Neelam Agarwal – Social Impact Vertical Head, and Nidhi Rathi – Treasurer.

Through this initiative, 25 college students—primarily from Army backgrounds—were successfully trained and certified as drone pilots. While their family members continue to safeguard the nation’s borders, these women are preparing to take to the skies, mastering unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations for real-world applications in agriculture, logistics, infrastructure monitoring, and surveillance. The program blended technical training with hands-on experience, ensuring participants gained both competence and confidence in operating advanced drone technology. The workshop was held in collaboration with The Macallum and Neosky.

Beyond technical skilling, She Flies – Wings of Honor served as a platform to challenge entrenched gender stereotypes in science and technology. The participants emerged as trailblazers, demonstrating that the discipline, adaptability, and resilience ingrained in military households naturally align with the precision and responsibility required in drone aviation. Their journey underscored the idea that women from defence families are uniquely positioned to excel in high-stakes, technology-driven roles.

The initiative also carried a strong socio-economic impact. By opening pathways to employment and entrepreneurship in a high-growth sector, it promoted financial independence and career continuity for women who often face disruptions due to frequent transfers associated with military life. In doing so, the program enabled Army families to contribute meaningfully to India’s digital and innovation-led economy.

She Flies – Wings of Honor stands as a compelling example of inclusive skilling, nation-building, and women-led participation in emerging technologies—honouring service while shaping the future.
