STEM Roundtable From Education to Enterprise Advancing Women in STEM

FLO Chennai conducted a focused STEM roundtable, bringing together representatives from industry, academia, schools, skilling organizations, STEM education providers, and students to discuss pathways to increase the participation, retention, and leadership of girls and women in STEM. Based on the discussion, the following priorities emerged:

  1. STEM Mentorship Network

Create a network connecting students and young women with industry professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers, and STEM leaders.

  1. Industry Exposure Programs

Facilitate internships, workplace visits, industry interactions, and career exploration opportunities for students.

  1. School and College Partnerships

Develop structured STEM engagement programs with schools and colleges, particularly for girls from underserved communities.

  1. AI and Future Skills Awareness

Conduct workshops and awareness programs focused on AI, emerging technologies, digital literacy, and future careers.

  1. Returnship and Re-skilling Initiatives

Explore programs that support women returning to the workforce through mentoring, flexible opportunities, and skill development.

Immediate Next Steps

  •         Participants will identify internship and industry-visit opportunities for students.
  •         FLO STEM will facilitate connections between schools, colleges, industry partners, and STEM organizations.
  •         Potential collaborations around mentorship, workplace exposure, and STEM outreach will be explored and developed.

The roundtable reaffirmed that the goal of STEM education is not merely to prepare students for technical careers, but to develop problem-solvers, innovators, and future leaders. By combining mentorship, exposure, hands-on learning, and equitable access, FLO Chennai has an opportunity to create a meaningful and lasting impact for girls and women across the STEM ecosystem.
