FLO Chennai Discussion with TNWeSafe on Women’s Empowerment & Workforce Inclusion

FLO Chennai hosted a focused discussion with Tmt. Asha Ajith I.A.S., Project Director for the Tamil Nadu Women Employment and Safety Project (TNWeSafe), to explore collaborative initiatives aimed at women’s empowerment, workplace inclusion, safety, and grassroots-level engagement. 

The discussion with TNWeSafe took place in the presence of FLO Chennai’s Dr. Amulya Rao – Chairperson, Nancy Satish – Joint Secretary & Head, Automobile and Mobility Vertical, Priya Goutham – National Head, FLO Startup Cell.

The conversation centered around building stronger ecosystems to enhance women’s participation in the workforce through skilling, awareness, institutional support, and entrepreneurship initiatives. The meeting also explored opportunities for collaboration between government-led initiatives and industry platforms to create a sustainable impact for women across Tamil Nadu. 

Key Discussion Outcomes 

  1. Discussion on grassroots-level women empowerment initiatives 
  2. Focus on creating safer and more inclusive workplace ecosystems for women 
  3. Importance of skill development, employability, and entrepreneurship support 
  4. Exploration of collaborative opportunities between institutions, industry, and government-led programs 
  5. Emphasis on increasing women’s workforce participation across sectors. 
  6. The meeting included discussions on the various focus verticals FLO Chennai aims to champion during the year towards women’s empowerment and inclusive growth, including: GreenTech & Sustainability, Agriculture & Rural Empowerment, Healthcare & Wellness, AI & Digital Literacy, and Entrepreneurship & Startup Ecosystems. 
  7. Skill Development & Workforce Readiness. The Automobile & Mobility sector was presented as a key focus area. Discussions included:
  • Initiatives planned to empower women at the shopfloor level within the automotive sector 
  • Creating awareness and opportunities for women in non-traditional industries 
  • Engagement with academia and students to prepare them for future workforce participation 
  • Building industry-academia partnerships to improve workforce readiness and skill alignment 
  • Encouraging greater participation of women in the manufacturing and mobility sectors 

Outcome 

The discussion reinforced a shared commitment towards enabling meaningful opportunities for women through collaboration, structured skilling initiatives, and ecosystem-driven support at both grassroots and industry levels.
