FLO Kolkata hosted an insightful event featuring Mr. Sudhakar Kaza, former Managing Director of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt. Ltd., delivered a compelling presentation on the complexities of demonetization and the evolution of India’s currency.
He shed light on the strategic elements behind the New Mahatma Gandhi Series, explaining that the design prioritized both security and accessibility. The new notes were printed on indigenous cotton-based paper and incorporated 51 distinct security features, including RFID signals, to effectively combat counterfeiting.
Furthermore, the vibrant color palettes and specific dimensions were intentional choices aimed at making the currency more accessible for the visually impaired while modernizing the overall aesthetic of Indian legal tender. Beyond the design, Mr. Kaza provided a rare glimpse into the 90-day secret operation required to print the ₹2,000 note, which was introduced as a temporary measure.
