FLO Lucknow, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Simran Sahni, in partnership with Rural Beat, organised a Bee Keeping Workshop at Village Poore Lal Shah in Jaisinghpur, Sultanpur.
More than 100 rural women from local self-help groups participated in the workshop and learned the fundamentals of beekeeping from Dr. Nitin Kumar Singh of Nitin’s Bees, a Lucknow-based enterprise with established commercial expertise in honey and bee products.
The session covered the complete beekeeping value chain, presenting it not as a single skill but as a series of interconnected capabilities, including colony management, seasonal hive care, safe honey extraction, and processing raw honey into products with greater market value.
Participants explored opportunities beyond simply harvesting and selling honey. They learned about infused honey, wax-based products, and curated hampers combining multiple bee products, opening up new possibilities for value addition and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Singh also highlighted the ecological importance of beekeeping, helping participants understand how the practice can support both livelihoods and environmental sustainability.
Impact & Outcome
The most tangible outcome of the workshop was the market linkage established alongside the training. Products created by the newly trained women will be sold at Anantam, giving the skills acquired during the workshop an immediate and practical market.
For rural women entrepreneurs, this direct connection between training, product development, and income generation can be the crucial step in turning a newly acquired skill into a sustainable livelihood opportunity.
