When Women Lead, Cities Transform: Round Table Conference Featuring Municipal Commissioner, Kanpur Nagar Nigam

FLO Kanpur, under the leadership of Chairperson Kriti Shroff, organised a Round Table Conference titled “When Women Lead, Cities Transform” with Mr. Sudhir Kumar, the Municipal Commissioner, Kanpur Nagar Nigam, at Landmark Towers. The session focused on policy-level discussions to improve public infrastructure, safety, hygiene, women-centric safe spaces for work, co-working hubs, emergency infrastructure, farmers’ markets, and other community priorities.

As a part of the Policy vertical, the session facilitated meaningful dialogue to align civic goals with FLO Kanpur’s commitment to driving impactful change for the city’s development and citizen well-being. The Municipal Commissioner appreciated the initiatives undertaken by FLO Kanpur and engaged in discussions on key points for future collaboration and action. 

This significant conversation was made possible with the vision and guidance of Past Chair and National Policy Head Aarti Gupta and the efforts of Policy Vertical Head Dr. Shefali Raj for arranging and executing the session seamlessly. Special thanks to Senior Vice Chair Ankita Garg, Vice Chair Sushma Singh, Treasurer Arushi Gardg, Joint Secretary Aarna, and members Niketaa Rathie, Rachna Mishra, and Siddhi. 

Third Eye, Solar Crafts, Renu Kasera, Radhika Gupta, Shweta Srivastava, and Varuni for their valuable time, presence, and insightful contributions that made the Round Table productive and goal-oriented. FLO Kanpur members presented their demands to the municipal commissioner during the roundtable discussion. 

They demanded the construction of co-working spaces and a centre of excellence to facilitate networking, skill development, and entrepreneurship for women at different levels. Apart from this, they urged the implementation of an e-bus facility, a creche facility near the hostel, a security awareness campaign, the provision of clean toilets in the district court, and the use of panic buttons. 

All the discussions were held to make the city both smart and clean for the public. Also, it ensures that women play a crucial role in the development of Kanpur. This round table conference is aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and FICCI FLO’s efforts towards women’s empowerment.
