Vruksha – Urban Greening (Miyawaki Project)

FLO Coimbatore, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Aparna Sunku, started Project Vruksha under its Urban Greening project. This project involves planting trees using the Miyawaki method plantation. It is an innovative Japanese technique that promotes rapid afforestation and dense native green cover.

This initiative came into reality due to Ms. Aparna Sunku (Chair) & Sharmila Gupta Malay (Vice Head). It aims to promote urban greening, biodiversity, and eco-restoration in partnership with corporates, colleges, and railways. 5000+ Native species research and site preparation at Karamadai Station are already in progress.

Also, various workshops have already been conducted for raising awareness about sustainability, biodiversity, and the Miyawaki method for students and local partners. This project included women volunteers in native species identification and environmental awareness outreach. This project also included MoUs signing with corporates, colleges, and Indian Railways under discussion.

Multiple women volunteers are trained in urban biodiversity awareness and sustainability leadership. The Miyawaki model will be replicated in other chapters with national-level MoUs for a larger impact. The total impact of this project: community and institutional engagement; groundwork for 5,000+ trees planted in the upcoming phase.
