FLO Chennai, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Niyati A. Mehta, organized an interactive workshop, “Upskilling to Understand Homepreneurship / Micro-Entrepreneurship – Be a Role Model to Your Next Generation.” This workshop was curated and facilitated by Mrs. Jyothi Thomas and led by Ms. Priya Gautam as part of MWA’s Moms’ Day Programme.
Held at MWA Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Gopalapuram, the session aimed to encourage women to explore opportunities, understand their self-worth, and embrace the possibilities of micro-entrepreneurship from the comfort of their own homes. Mrs. Thomas highlighted the importance of recognizing individual potential, working collaboratively in small groups or teams, and taking small, consistent steps toward financial independence.
Key Points Discussed
- Government schemes and support available for women entrepreneurs.
- Ways to start small, home-based ventures.
- Building confidence and a support network.
- The power of teamwork and peer collaboration.
The discussion was highly participative, with mothers sharing their ideas, aspirations, and challenges. The Tamil-medium interaction helped ensure deeper engagement and relatability. Through our ground partner, Arpanam, support has also been established if required.
The session concluded with an encouraging message from Jyothi Thomas, inspiring participants to become role models for their children by taking proactive steps toward self-reliance and personal growth, importantly, upskilling and learning.
The workshop was insightful, empowering, and well-received by all attendees. Feedback from the organizers was extremely encouraging; they stated this was the first of its kind for them. What started as a very quiet session burst out into understanding each other that morning; these ladies meet regularly. It was an eye-opening session for 95 attendees.
