FLO Chennai, under the leadership of Chairperson Ms. Niyati A. Mehta, organized a thought-provoking session, “Safeguarding Your Legacy,” at Forum Gallery. An Estate Planning lecture was given by Mrs. Kavitha Vijay, Senior Partner of Chugh Universal Legal, who heads the Firm’s Chennai office. The topics she covered included the various aspects and the pros and cons of different instruments for securing one’s inheritance, ensuring a smooth transition to the bequeathed.
The importance of Estate Planning, Succession, and the Applicable Legal framework that guide it, throwing light on Personal Laws, Testamentary versus Intestate Succession, whether Registration of a Will is optional or mandatory, and whether to Probate it, is mandatory, and how probates work, as well as probates versus settlements were some of the topics she covered.
She also elaborated on Trusts, Gifts and Settlement Deeds, Repatriation and the common Estate Planning mistakes one commits. It was truly an educational interaction and for many an eye opener, judging from the questions that kept coming from the audience.
