Legal Awareness Symposium: Resolving Conflicts in Family While Keeping Family Bonds Intact

FLO Chennai, led by Chairperson Dr. Divya Abhishek and Past Chairperson Ms. Shobhana Reddy, in collaboration with FCDR and Jaagrithi Foundation, organized a Legal Awareness Symposium, at Madras Management Association (MMA).

The event featured Chief Guests – Hon’ble Mr. Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy of the High Court of Madras and Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Kannan, Former Judge of the High Courts of Madras, Punjab & Haryana. Group Captain Mr. Vijay Kumar of the Madras Management Association (MMA) played a pivotal role in facilitating the event’s success.

The event, attended by 200 people, highlighted mediation as a dignified alternative to litigation, integrating legal and psychological perspectives. The symposium featured four panel discussions:

1. The Magic of Mediation: The Best Legal Solution
The panel, moderated by Ms. Pushya Sitaraman, with Hon’ble Mr. Justice D. Bharatha Chakravarthy and Hon’ble Mr. Justice K. Kannan, the session highlighted mediation as a transformative tool for resolving disputes requiring unique solutions.

2. Mediating Disputes in Family Relationships Moderated by Ms. Revathi G. Mohan, with panelists Ms. Uma Ramanathan and Ms. Geetha Ramaseshan, the session addressed power dynamics, confidentiality, and the inadmissibility of evidence collected during mediation.

3. Mediating Inheritance and Family Business Disputes
The panel was moderated by Mr. R. Vijayakrishnan, Ms. Chitra Narayan, and Mr. R. Murari, this panel emphasized mediation’s role in resolving disputes while preserving family harmony.

4. Underlying Psychological Factors That Cause Conflicts This panel was moderated by Mr. Ajay Singh, Ms. R. Varalakshmi, Dr. Sabiha Sultana, and Ms. Nandini Raman, the panel explored narcissism and psychological factors contributing to conflicts.
