Launch of Handicraft Initiative – The Dokra Renaissance

FLO Hyderabad, led by Chairperson Pratibha Kunda organized handicraft revival initiative of the year is the 4000 year old metal art of Dokra by the tribals of Adilabad district in Telangana. Renowned actor, theatre artist, and art enthusiast Ms. Ratna Pathak Shah launched this initiative by unveiling the memento. She engaged with the artists who had come 6 hours away to attend along with their products which were showcased in a setup. 254 members attended the event.

Ms. Shah shared the Dokra memento which will be used through the year for speaker felicitation. She expressed gratitude to the district administration, especially Sri Rajarshi Shah, I.A.S., District Collector & Magistrate, Adilabad District, and Smt. Khushboo Gupta, IAS, Project Officer, I.T.D.A., for their invaluable support in this initiative. A complete collection of Dokra craft products was showcased during the session. Two artisans, Shri Bhujanga Rao and Smt. Girijha Bai, were invited to be part of the launch.

The event was lead by Ms Konda Kavita Reddy and her team – Ms. Prashanti Goyal and Ms. Sheetal Tibrewala. The chapter is working closely with artisans from Jamgaon, Keslaguda, and Utnoor and it is helping transform Dokra from temple idols to functional, contemporary designs—pen stands, coasters, and cardholders that blend heritage with modern utility. Through this initiative the team plans to do the following:

  • Establishing a new society to support skilled artisans.
  • Developing training for effective management of social media handles.
  • Creating an innovative product catalogue for Style Tattva.
  • Providing financial assistance to artisans for sourcing raw materials.
  • Facilitating access to MSME loans to support business growth.
  • Promoting corporate gifting options featuring unique Dokra artists’ creations.
  • Introducing special gifting solutions for the festive season.
  • Offering training to artisans focused on enhancing finish quality and fostering the development of new designs.
