YFLO Hyderabad partnered with UNICEF India through the “Educate. Empower. Elevate.” initiative on World NGO Day 2025. This initiative focused on delivering quality education and essential life skills to girls from underprivileged backgrounds across Telangana.
Despite progress, education for girls in India faces critical challenges:
- Retention Crisis: While most children enroll in primary school, only 52.5% reach secondary education.
- Skill Deficiency: By 2030, over half of Indian youth may lack employable skills.
- Youth Exclusion: 30% of youth aged 15-24, including 47% of young women, are neither working nor studying.
Through “Educate. Empower. Elevate.,” YFLO Hyderabad directly contributed to key educational interventions that address real needs on the ground by impacting 2000 girls and women: STEM Education ? Establishing low-cost ‘maker spaces’ in girls’ schools and expanding Atal Tinkering Labs (ATL) to foster innovation and curiosity; Life Skills Education ? Delivering teacher training and life skills sessions to 475 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), equipping girls with practical knowledge for everyday challenges; Gender Integration in Schools ? Piloting gender-responsive learning in 1,000 schools with specialized teacher handbooks and training programs; Career Guidance for Secondary Students ? Providing career information cards, access to a career helpline, and courses to prepare teachers for guiding students; and Beyond Classrooms: Building Futures.
This initiative aligns with IndiaÍs National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- SDG 4: Quality Education
- SDG 5: Gender Equality
- SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth
- SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
