FICCI FLO, under the leadership of the 42nd National President of FLO, Ms. Poonam Sharma, hosted the 14th virtual session of the Skill to Scale: Gift Packaging Skilling Workshop series, “Design Aesthetics and Scope in Weddings,” under its Project W.I.N.G.S, led by National Initiative Head, Ms. Shalini Beriwal.
This online session focused on guiding attendees on designing a wedding with perfection and understanding the client’s needs. The virtual session featured guest speakers: Ms. Baisakhi Ghosh from Kolkata, owner of Baisakhi Flowers, and Ms. Rakhi Kankaria from Hyderabad, founder of Rachnoutsav Events. Design Aesthetics and Scope in Weddings session was moderated by Project W.I.N.G.S’ core team member, Alka Tara Bahal.
The speakers provided guidance to the women entrepreneurs, looking forward to entering the wedding design space, about how to set up the entire aesthetic and emotional experience of a wedding. The top quality of a wedding designer is being a good storyteller who can curate the look and feel of the event by taking care of every element to tell a couple’s story.

- Speakers, Ms. Baisakhi Ghosh and Ms. Rakhi Kankaria, led an interactive session by sharing details on how to transform celebrations into unforgettable experiences. Also, they emphasized the importance of design in making a wedding grand, personal, and memorable.
- According to these experts, wedding design is more than about decor. From Mehendi, Haldi, Sangeet, and the main wedding, every function requires its own different look and story.
- From the beginning, a wedding designer must understand a couple’s culture, personal story, preferred decor, priorities, budget, rituals, color palettes, lighting, desired ambiance, and venue for designing a perfect wedding.
- Ms. Baisakhi Ghosh said during her address that picking up the right floral arrangement is crucial to enhance the wedding or event’s overall mood and ambiance. Instead of using artificial flowers, it is better to add aromatic flowers to the wedding decor to add sensory detail and set the right aesthetic for the wedding.
- Ms. Rakhi Kankaria said during her address that deciding the right theme, structure, and couple’s entry is important to create an engaging experience for everyone.
- In order to become a successful wedding designer in India, it is crucial to be a person with creativity, strong organizational and communication skills, deep vendor knowledge, and a calm personality to manage every task with patience.
Impact & Outcome
The Design Aesthetics and Scope in Weddings session was attended by around 32 participants. It benefited many women entrepreneurs who want to become wedding designers in India. They learned how to design a client’s wedding as per their rituals, family traditions, and work with suppliers.
As a part of the W.I.N.G.S initiative, this session is a testament to FICCI FLO’s commitment towards empowering women by equipping them with knowledge and income-generating skills to make them self-reliant and a part of the economy.
