FLO Ahmedabad, led by Chairperson Madhu Banthia, organised an enlightening session on the history of India, spanning from the British colonial era to the country’s hard-won independence. Members and guests explored the impact of World War I and II on India’s struggle for freedom, and how the country’s fate was intertwined with global events.
They learned about the momentous night of August 15, 1947, when India finally gained independence at midnight, and the simultaneous birth of Pakistan as a separate nation. The complex history of the region, including the contentious issue of Kashmir, which has its roots in the tumultuous events of the time, was also discussed.
The session shed light on lesser-known aspects of Indian history, such as the integration of over 562 princely states into the Indian Union, a monumental task undertaken by Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The attendees gained insights into the first Indo-Pak war in 1947-48, which was sparked by the Kashmir dispute, and the sacrifices of key figures like Ranjit Singh ji and Somnath Sharma ji.
The discussion was led by senior advocate Shri Devangbhai Nanavati, a renowned history buff with a passion. With his exceptional storytelling skills and great auditory flair, he kept the audience thoroughly captivated. Around 55 women attended the event, and members were also honoured to have special invitees, including prominent businesspersons, Mr. Bhadresh Shah, Mr. Sandip Duggar and Ms. Priyanshi Jariwala.
