42nd National President of FICCI FLO, Ms. Poonam Sharma, was invited as the guest of honour at the Saree Symphony, a celebration of Indian heritage, music, and womanhood. She graced the event with her presence and promoted women’s leadership, Indian artisans, and weavers across India during her special address. Held at the ITC Grand Chola, Chennai, this World Saree Day celebration honoured the saree as a symbol of Indian heritage, cultural pride, craftsmanship, and sustainable fashion.
The event was thoughtfully moderated by Ms. Jeyasree Ravi, founder of Palam Silks. Also, this celebration was organized under the leadership of FLO Chennai’s chairperson, Ms. Niyati A. Mehta, along with the FLO Chennai Committee. Draped in her signature saree, Ms Usha Uthup joined the culturally rich evening as the guest speaker and turned the evening special with her inspiring talk.
Known for songs like Koi Yahan Nache, Hari Om Hari, and Darling, Ms. Usha captivated the audience with her powerful voice and candid storytelling. She emphasized embracing individuality and recounted how she faced different challenges during the initial days of her career. Once, she was told that her deep contralto voice did not fit conventional musical norms. From being a nightclub singer to an iconic Bollywood singer, Ms. Usha Utthup has carved her own path to success with her hard work, dedication, and passion.
Also, she shared the memorable story of purchasing her first Kanchipuram saree for ₹126, a symbol of independence and self-earned pride, beautifully aligning with the spirit of World Saree Day. Saree Symphony focused on honouring skilled weavers and artisans who shape every thread.
Around 275 attendees, including FLO members, culture patrons, and women leaders, witnessed an evening filled with music, memories, and meaningful conversations. The event concluded with Ms. Usha Uthup delivering a joyous musical performance. Saree Symphony is a testament to FICCI FLO’s unwavering commitment towards empowering women who are preserving Indian heritage and driving change.
