Embroidery Workshop at Anant National University in Collaboration with The Crafts Council of Gujarat

FLO Ahmedabad, under the leadership of Madhu Banthia, organised an Embroidery Workshop at Anant National University, in collaboration with The Crafts Council of Gujarat. This workshop is a part of the Textile, Handlooms & Handicraft vertical, which supports women artisans in getting good earning opportunities and the right platform to showcase their crafts. This initiative supports these women in participating in exhibitions and training programs.

The event is led by the initiative head of Textile, Handloom & Handicraft Vertical, Rachita Parekh and mentor Shilpa Patel. This workshop is a part of the ongoing partnerships FLO has established with Sahaay NGO, Anant National University, and the Crafts Council of Gujarat, aimed at empowering women through skill development and heritage-based livelihoods.

Key Takeaways

  • To impart embroidery skills rooted in Gujarat’s craft heritage.
  • To enable sustainable income opportunities through hands-on skilling.
  • To connect academic institutions, craft councils, and NGOs through purposeful collaboration.
  • To implement structured and scalable training models for women’s empowerment.
  • Each participant received an embroidery tool kit and a fabric bag to practice and showcase their work.

30 women from Sahaay NGO were trained by 13 student-trainers from Anant University in traditional embroidery techniques of Gujarat, using a Train the Trainer model. The initiative deepened collaboration between FLO, academia, artisans, and grassroots NGOs. FLO Ahmedabad extends heartfelt gratitude to Anant National University for hosting and providing enthusiastic student trainers and the Crafts Council of Gujarat for their support and resource contribution.
